Shotgun slugs

I would like to hear opinions of shotgun slug comparisons.20 Ga. versus 12 Ga. for accuracy and their ability to knock a deer down.Primarily the Sabot Slugs.And your opinion as to what brand of slugs you like.Any bad experience with with any type of slug you have used on deer.

    Do you have to use sabots while shooting out of a rifled barrel? If not, what are some good(cheap) slugs that wont fill in my rifeling after 1 shot.

    Rifled slugs wont smear lead down the barrel then?

    Why sabots? Whats so good about them that makes them cost so much?

    Lead slugs engage the rifling in a rifled barrel and rotate as they travel, the same way saboted slugs do. I use lead slugs in a rifled barrel with no problems.

    Saboted slugs cost more either because they cost more to make or because they seem exotic and a greater profit can be made on resulting demand.

    I bought a few boxes of a slug called the "Brenneke K.O." the KO stands for knock out. It is a lead 1 oz. slug attached to a plastic wad. I have yet to try these in my rifled slug gun(it has been a busy summer), but if they shoot good groups at 100 yds, I'll never buy another sabot. I got these at Dicks for $1.79 per box of 5. It looks like it would pack a wallop. I'll try to get to the range soon and post some pictures if it groups good. Has anyone else tried these Brenneke K.O. slugs? Good accuracy?

    Most of the time, the groups you get out of a standard slug are going to open up quite a bit past 75 - 80 yards. If you don't plan to shoot at game beyond that, and find one that groups well out of your gun, go for it. Nothing wrong with using the cheaper ones.

    Personally, I like the confidence and the added range that sabots offer. I hunt with Winchester Platinum tipped 400 grain sabot. But for practice, I use Remington/Winchester 3 " foster slugs also. Trajectory is similar but cost is about 1/3.
