East German Makarov

I have what I'm told is an East German Makarov. It's a semi-auto pistol. Glossy black with plastic grips, fixed sights and the following markings: BX 3252, a "Y"ciclrled with dots, K100 inside a box, 62 on the frame, and on the front strap ERNST THAELMANN MOD. M 9mm SACCA GERMANY.
Does anyone know how to take the firing pin out and where to find a replacement? it appears this on e is broken.

    interested in ernst thaelmann makarov have c&r license seller says it's not eligible because it's got a DA mark which means it was made in 1963 my brown book says east german makarovs are ok does anybody know who is right ?

    Removing a firing pin on a MAK is easy. Removed the slide from the frame, rotate and remove the safety and the firing pin will fall out.

    Double check to see if the firing pin is broken. With the gun UNLOADED, and the safety OFF, put an UNSHARPENED pencil with the lead end in first, down the barrel, point the gun straight up, cock the hammer and pull the trigger. If the pencil jumps, your gun is OK. If the pencil just sits there, either the safety is on or the firing pin is broken or missing. Makarovs have a safety that drops the cocked hammer on a block when activated, preventing it from hitting the firing pin. People new to Makarovs think their gun is defective when actually it isn't. Congratulations on obtaining a fine handgun. It should be worth at least $300 if working properly and in excellent condition. Your gun is chambered for the 9mm Makarov round. Do NOT try to fire 9mm Parabellum, 9 mm Luger, 9 mm Kurtz, or 9mm (9x19) in it. It could break your gun(and your face).

    I just noticed that SOG has these "East German" Maks once again.
    They are priced at 295.00. I don't know if those import marks are on these or not,...the one I got some years back had that exact same fine etching, as mentioned.
    They were once priced at 124.00.
    I thought I remembered they used to be C&R elligible, too....this batch does not have that distinction in their flyer.
    As per the other post concerning what is C&R and not....it don't really make much difference,...if the seller don't want to do it and ain't got it listed as such,..thats it then.
    My compliments to Twalker,... it sounds like he understands these aspects and nuances of the Maks.

    If you hear a rattle inside the gun (i.e firing pin)thats generally a good thing. The Maks firing pin is free floating (no spring). If you don't hear a Mak rattle it usually means the firing pin channel is full of gunk and this is a dangerous situation.
