Colt Combat Commander 38 Super

I've been trying to get an idea on this without much luck. Found similar models, but not the same. It has a 4-1/4" barrel, blue finish, gold medalians on checkered wood grips. It was purchased in 1982 and ser. num. starts with 80BS... If anyone could give me a range of value for it, I'd appreciate it.

    Sally, Welcome to the forums. Based on the date of purchase you have a series 80 Commander.

    The blued Commanders were discontinued in 1996. Per the Blue Book, the value of your gun is:

    100% cond $695.00
    98% cond $575.00
    95% cond $485.00

    That's blue book, but like most antique blue books not all guns in the gun blue book is accurate, I would add $100.00's to that, the colt in .38 super is not very common and often demands a higher price than listed

    Sally, If it was purchased in 1982 it is a pre series 80. Some people call them series 70s. The series 80 production did not start until 1983. They made both pre 80s and series 80s in 1983. In excellant condition your 38 super Combat Commander should bring between $700 and $800.

    The 38 super is really a 9mm magnum. It is one very sweet round only a very few have come to know and love it. Much like the 41mag and the 10mm. my 2 cents [8D]

    Thank you! Really liked that $1199, but want to sell quickly and have two people asking me about it. Usual story - was my Dad's and had to get it out of the house before my mom shot somebody with it. I have the box, all papers and figure honestly about one box of shells shot. Some tiny nicks on the front of the grip. So, I think maybe see how seven sounds to either guy.

    Not really the 9mm is .355 and has an average higher chamber pressure, the .38 super is .356 , now that could be said about the 9x21
