1911 scope mount

a few days ago i posted a thread on putting a C-more serenpity sight on my 1911.
received some caution on the serendipity stye site ( claim that the mount will eventually cack)

i am curiose as to what are the best mounts for a 1911? all i do is informal target shooting. i want to put a "heads up style scope" on it. what arre other good scopes in this style and what arethe best mounts for them . . . drilling and tapping the frame or slide is an option

the main thing is that i do not want the gun/scope combo to be to tall or awkward, kinda low profile if you wil (the way he serendipity is mounted, low to the slide)
again ny anfo is appreciated

i personaly do not beleive that you need to carry an anti tank rifle for personal protection.

it doesn't matter how big your gun is, it's what you do with it when it counts :)

    Hello this is a subject that will have different suggestions from different people but IMHO a slide mounted RED DOT scope is the way to go . A red dot scope will give a better sight picture in bright light. it has a polorizeing filter and it give protection in the rain. I like the slide mount as it tames some of the recoil. I like the ULTRA DOR with adjustable dot size 2/4/6/8 minute . This unit is sold by Larry's gun as well as others . "PRAISE THE HARDBALL GUN"

    http://www.dawsonprecision.com/ and http://www.stiguns.com/ both make one. I suggest one of their mounts with either a C-more or OKO red dot sight. FWIW, I've never heard of a C-more cracking, but it might be possible.

    I'd recommend against a slide mount for a few reasons:
    1. Increased slide weight can affect reliability.
    2. High speed travel and sudden stops involved with slide movement can hurt the scope.
    3. Increased slide weight can slow the cycling of the gun (resulting in #1)
    4. Dot is easier to track in recoil on a frame mount (more important for follow up shots)

    If all your shooting is bullseye, some of these aren't big problems because if you have a malfunction, you can just claim an "alibi" and get to reshoot a string. If you ever get into any action shooting (like IPSC), malfunctions and slow cycling are problems that can really penalize you. For informal target shooting, I'd still prefer the frame mount for the reliability, if nothing else.
