Ithaca Lever Shotgun
I saw an interesting gun this morning. An Ithaca single-shot .410 shotgun - has a lever that opens the barrel - 3" chamber, not sure of choke - Model 66, I believe. Very basic hardwood stocks and painted and blued metal. Very good shape inside and out. Man wants $50.00. I might buy it just for the heck of it. I only see larger bore at GB auctions. Any thoughts. Worth it? I've never owned a .410 - started shooting a 16 ga Winchester Mod 37 as a boy. Thanks.

I would go back their as fast as I could, and buy it. Hopefully it hasn't been sold. Specially it being a .410, it's worth substantially more then $50.

The last one I saw was a 20 ga, and it sold for over $200 the 410 should be worth %25-50 more.

Only one's around here I've seen have been goin' for $150 + and aren't in all that great of shape.

I called him yesterday afternoon and left a message - we had a short day Saturday, half the crew was there and only until noon. He returned my call this morning and will bring it to the job tomorrow. We're firm on the $50.00 and he'll bring what .410 shells he has around the house as well. I never thought I'd own a .410 - I'll have to do some real oratory to keep my boys off me on this one. They both wanted them as starter guns but I insisted on them learning with 16's and 20's - I didn't want to handicap those beginners so severely with a .410 - I'll report on what the gun is really like when I get home with it tomorrow. timbroman,this was the first gun i ever hunted with.but it was a 20ga my grandfather owned.after he died we couldnt find that gun but i have a small collection of them in 410,20,12.just kinda unusual guns,and it brings back memories.i thought they were made in 16ga but after looking for along time i have found out they were never built.have fun don 0 -
First new gun I bought was an Ithaca single shot 12 gauge with the lever.I think it was 19 dollars new(1965 or 66).Bought it at the hardware store in town,carried it down Main St.and no one thought twice about a teen age boy with a shotgun.Times sure have changed. 0 -
I guess this will be locked at 10 posts so this is it. I got the gun this morning with almost two boxes of shells. I am very pleased with the condition. I handle 410 shells so infrequently, I am always surprised at how tiny they are. All in all it was a good trade.
I see a pretty decent-looking one in 410 on GB since I first posted.
Buddyb, Roger that, about carrying one through a small town where someone in the barber shop or the Western Auto would come out on the sidewalk and remind the forgetful boy to carry the gun with the action open or put the Mossberg bolt in his pocket until he got to the field.
Nambu, I know what you're talking about. The only other time I was interested in a 410 shotgun was from a Times-Picauyune ad, read something like "Older 410 Winchester pump, old but clean and no rust, $75.00" I called the number in the ad and the fella says he just sold it and the buyer was on his way to pick it up. I thought about telling him what I thought it was really worth but I didn't want to queer the deal for the buyer. I also didn't want to be put on the spot if he had asked me would I have given him $500.00 instead of the $75.00 he was asking if I had gotten to it first. I saved the two copies of that ad somewhere around here for a long time. I guess he had paid for two days so the paper ran the second day even though the gun was sold. I'd like to have a dime for every call he got from that ad.
