Difference between Taurus 66 and 669

Is there any difference between the Taurus Model 66 revolver and the Taurus Model 669 revolver and if so what is it? All knowledgable responses, as always, are appreciated.

    Basically there once was a difference, but then they became the same.

    I'll explain. Originally the 66 had the tapered barrel, it did not have the full lug to the end of the barrel. The 669 DID have the full lug to the end of the barrel. Then there was a 689 that was just like the 669, but it had a vent rib. The 66, the 669, and the 689 were a medium frame with a 6 shot cylinder. The 66 with a tapered barrel, the 669 with the full lug and the 689 with a vent rib and full lug.

    Then in 1997-1998 all those were discontinued, except the 66, which went through some changes. It was re-introduced in 1999, at that point the 66 started having a full lug and a 7 shot cylinder. That has remained as the current configuration of the 66, blue or stainless, 4" or 6", 7 shot cylinder, with a full lug barrel (no vent rib). The 669 and 689 were both discontinued in 1998 and were never re-introduced. I hope this helps to clarify things for you.
