Wyoming Prairie Dog Hunting
I'd like to do a little prairie dog hunting in southwestern Wyoming (I live in Utah). I really don't want to pay for a guided hunt, and I was wondering if anyone could suggest public land where I could go? If you'd prefer to keep it more private, you can e-mail me. olsenjb@earthlink.net. Thanks.

Much of the Wyoming land is private, but most ranchers do not admire prairie dogs. You might try asking if they would like you to shoot some pdogs. Worked for me with pronghorn, which they don't much like either. 0 -
Yes, most of the land around here is private. I live in SE Wyoming. I too know a few rancher that have let me hunt on their property. Half the battle will be trying to track down the owner.

I spent 3 1/2 months in Wyoming this spring, went dog hunting several times. Get you a Wyoming gazeteer map. Wal-mart has them. Lots of public that I could find. If I remember right, purple color on the map means BLM.
The best part........you don't need a license. You can hunt coyotes, dogs, and jack rabbits with no license, they consider them varmints. Good luck, and post pics!!

Utah has (or had) some great hunting for what we called "pot guts". They are like a smaller verson of the prarie dog. Take a look up on Big Creek off of Monte. You can set up on a hillside and shoot from 50 to 300+ yds.0 -

Of course the vaunted jackrabbit/jackalope is quite the critter to go after in Utah.....all over the place there and in NV.
