Anyone tell me about the Walter P1. Im in commi Kali but it made the list and thought it might be cool.

    What is a Walther P1 that is in very good condition worth? And just how good of a firearm is it?

    Post war manufactured, Alloy frame version of the Kraut W W II P-38 Military Pistol.

    The P1's that have been on the market in recent years are surplus West German Army Pistols.

    (2) versions, the second has the frame reinforced with a steel bolt. If you buy one, be sure it's the second version.

    Maybe I am lucky? Bought my P1 3 years ago at gunshow in Virginia Beach for $199.00 It is marked 4/82 on the slide. I have not shot factory ammo in about 20 years as I am an avid reloader. It shoots 95 gr hollow points and bullets up to 147 gr fmj or HP with no problems. With 125 gr HP,lead or FMJ bullets of any manufacture it is dead on at 25 yards. My buddy has one as well and we play a game called Redneck Golf. Set a golf ball out at 15 yard line. Hit it with a hollow point and send it over the back stop.............FOUR! For a low cost pistol with non adjustable sights it is the most accurate I have seen. Only second best to my 1911 45 assembled from USGI parts. My GI 45 and P1 actually shoot better than my Kimber 45 which is VERY picky about ammo and has a set of 90 dollar adjustable sights on it. I think we tend to relate price of a gun to how accurate it is.The more we spend....the more accurate......which is not always the case. I believe that if you want accuracy,,,.....reload! Once you find a load that works, stick with it. All too often I see folks at the range "sighting in" their prized $1000 auto with five brands of ammo and five bullet weights....combined with five different types of bullet configurations while shooting free hand. When they see my P1 targets they ask to try it, rip out the bullseye and walk away scratching their heads as they load yet another brand of ammo in theirs with different bullet weight. They never stop to think why military ammo is tested and has a MIL SPEC for it...one word as a retired Medic for the USMC that has shot lots of 9mm ammo......consistancy!. Ok...stepping off my soap box...somebody hand me a golf ball.....this looks like a par 3 hole.

    How good is a gun ? Technically the P-38 a sound and proven design - accurate and reliable - nothing wrong with that - it's more a question of personal preference, if you find a weapon good ore no-good. Soldiers have few choises - they have to learn to live (ore die) with the equipment they are delt.
    In my opinion the P-38 is exactly a pistol in that category - I wouldent give it first choise - ore even fifth - but I could probadly learn to live with it.
