LC Smith shotgun inherited

I recently inherited an LC Smith Hunter Arms, double barrell, 12 guage, hammer action, 32" shotgun. I was wondering an approximate value. Someone told me it was made in 1924, but had no clue of its value. The serial number is 74886. Thank you for any help.

    My guess it that there's a 1 in front of the serial you gave. That would make the gun c. 1913.

    You give no hint of condition, nor grade, nor barrel length. You make no mention of whether steel tubes or damascus.

    Please read the header and include the proper information so that we can give a somewhat accurate answer to your question(s).

    It has Royal Steel stamped on it so I would guess that it is steel. My great uncle wrote down the serial number 74886. Where can i find the serial number on the actual gun? I wouldn't say it is in excellent condition. It has been used, but taken care of very well. Probably good condition.

    And the really good news...

    Royal Steel is usually associated with graded guns (At least a step up from field grade as a rule, though not always). That means you have at least a shooter once a good smith has given the green light.

    Serial and grade (letter or number) will be found on the watertable. Remove the forearm, break the action open, and carefully remove the tubes. Tubes will bear a similar number. We need both the prefix and/or suffix included with the serial (Letter or number).

    Photos would be a huge help, but yours is a classic shotgun and carries value even if only on good mechanical condition. With a degree of finish intact, good wood, and no bumps or bruises... Things only get better!

    You probably can't tell that I have a soft spot for Elcee's... Truly great shotguns!

    Sorry I haven't posted in a few days. The serial number is 74883F. I went to Cabela's today and they had some LCs from about the same time that were considered in good condition that looked much worse than mine. I would have to say mint condition. I will put up pictures tomorrow or Saturday. I am definately not looking to sell this piece, I just want to know the value of what I have.

    1923-1924 is correct. A field gun from all indications. I assume double triggers.

    12 ga. is the most numerous of the Elcee offerings, and the least prized for that very reason. If your gun is pristine and as described above, then it may reach the $1k mark in value. Usually a nice field gun will run somewhat less, but yours could be the exception.

    I run a home for wayward Elcees and won't charge you much at all for its care and feeding. All you need do is cover the shipping.[;)]

    I to love elcees, but they don't fit me worth spit. I have seen reblued/refinished shotguns with recoil pads added asking $475. Depends somewhat on region, but yours would likely fetch a minimum of $500.
