Colt SAA Uberti Repro
Of possible interest about Colt Single Action clones, I just bought a new Uberti repro of Colt Single Action. Blue with color case frame. Fit and finish is quite good. Lines where trigger guard frame fits receiver and sharpness of cylinder scallops are close to excellent. Flatness of frame sides is not perfect but only noticeable when looking at its reflection of light. Overall, with a like new 100 year old Colt rated a 10, I give the Uberti a 9. It has some technical changes and doesn't click the same as the Colt when cocking it. The hand spring is a tiny coil spring that enters along side of the left screw hole for the backstrap of the grip, the hole to left of the hammer. It has a safety device built into the hammer in which putting it on the first notch engages an internal linkage (within the hammer itself) that blocks the hammer from going full down to fire position in the event the piece is dropped on the hammer in such a way that it would (ordinarily) fail at the trigger and notch interface and allow the piece to fire. It also has the center pin notch safety that is seen on various other SAA clones. One piece wood grip is so perfect and beautifully finished that I had to take off the back strap to convince myself that the grip was real wood instead of plastic of some kind.

Even though it's a bit 'different' than a Colt,the coil spring hand spring is a plus.Very easy to change out IF it should break.Those almost never do.I've had several flat hand springs break on my clones in the past.

Strange about hand springs. In my playing with SAAs since the 1930s I never had one with a broken hand spring, also includes 51 Navies & 1860 Armys & other Colt SA types, but almost no experience with clones. Different strokes for different folks, I guess. Cheers! 0
