Help me date these
Father-in-law wants to sell these on GB and we would like to know the approximate mfg. date, and since I'm asking possible value.
1. Win. model 12 16ga. Sn.1420505 he thinks its from the '50's.
this thing is mint, original blueing, looks like its been in a gun cabnet its whole life, almost no wear on the slide even.
2. Browning "lite-twenty" 20ga. Sn.51894pr231
again its mint, its had 4 shells shot through it.
any help on date of mfg. and possible value would be greatly appreciated . Thanks, Ben

I can tell you the Winchester m-12 was made 1953-1954. 0 -

The Model 12 was made sometime in the first half of the 1950s.
The Browning A-5 should also have a two-character code just above the serial number... the first character is a numeral, and the second character should be a "Z". The number preceding the "Z" will tell us what year it was manufactured.
The value for the Model 12 will depend upon which exact variant it is, and if it has any special order features. The exact barrel length and choke can also make a substantial difference.
The Browning A-5 "Light Twenty" value is also affected by the barrel length, choke, and if it has a Vent Rib.
Pictures of both guns would also help.

Model 12 FIELD grade 16ga early50s/mid 50s production. 98% condition or there abouts with no alterations...$425-550... add about 100 for any choke other than full or mod...add 200 for a solid rib....
if it is a trap or skeet gun in the condition you state double the above.....

Well guys this is what I've been able to find out. Gunut gave me a pretty good idea what the Model 12 is worth but I would really like an opinion on the Browning Auto5 before I get locked out. I will put both guns, any value given will be appreciated.
1. '53-54 Win. Model 12 16ga. Mint wood & orig. blue metal
full choke 27" barrel
2. '87 Browning Auto 5 "Light 20" 20ga. Mint wood & metal
screw in choke 27" barrel with vent rib.

Hello, although I cannot help you date those firearms, may I suggest you try dating women. They are much easier transport, they don't need a case and hopefully they are loaded.

Hello jbw1776: Well actually your Md 12 was made in 1952, (Ref: Rifles book) It has a 28 inch barrel, barrel length is measured from the face of breech bolt when closed to the end of the barrel.
As far as value being a Full choke it's not as desirable as a more open choked Md 12 but the value could run from around
$475-$700. It really depends on how you would market it, locally, internet listing site, auction site, or national publication like the Gun List.
