mauser 98...35 whelen?

can i put a 35 whelen in a '98 mauser action? sounds like a nice project to do, i dont know if the bullets will fit in the standard magazine. thinkin of toping it off with a nice stock and maybe an A&B barrel. and of course replacing some internals (trigger, springs)

  If you are up to the project you have outlined then it is no trick to cut down the sides of the box mag, bend the front face out and then back vertical and reweld it back in an 1/8" farther foward. You also have to increase the angle of the feed ramp in the receiver to match the new inside edge of the box mag. Which is easy to do with a dremel tool. This sould give you plenty of room for the 35Whelen cartridge. For all the work invloved why don't you spring for at least a Shilen barrel from Brownells, they are only twice the price of the A&B and ten time better quality. Good luck with the project however you decide to go.

  Sounds like a very interesting project. I am in the middle of a parker-hale mauser project chambered in 30-06 and i am kinda wishing i would have made the change to 35 whelen.

  this is very 'do-able', i've made several myself. the standard lenght m-98 mag. will work with factory ammo as is, brownell's sell a light weight longer trigger guard/mag. with a hinged floor plate for about $70.
