Your Opinon - Ruger Single Six Problem..

I picked up a Single Six in .22 & 22w.m.(consignment piece) from the
shop around the corner. I get her home, clean her up, and I can't get the spare cylinder to line up and mount. Thanks to you all and a search, I find that the cylinders on the Single Six should be marked with the last three digits of the serial number. This is a three screw vintage 63' (and has had the transfer bar upgrade). Turns out, the cylinder in the six is the 22w.m. and it's the .22lr that won't fit.
I took her back to the shop and the owners son wants their gunsmith to check it out. Ok, now that paper work is done, however to his credit the kid said they would make it right. He said they test fire
every consignment firearm before they sell it..(and with the number of firearms that go through that place I suspect they didn't attempt to mount the spare cylinder)
So now, your opinion, stay the course and wait? (I bought the .22 for Mrs. Campcook to shoot) Just tell him to keep it, I'll find
another S.A. .22 for my bride? Give the gunsmith a week to figure out he'll have to send it to Ruger? Ask for a loaner...ha!

    it sounds like your 3 screw was originally sold with just the 22 mag cylinder which is how some of them where sold , and it sounds like some one purchased a spare cylinder for it that doesn't fit , so you didn't say what the price was , but it looks like you either have to sned it back to the factory to have Ruger fit the cylinder to it or get your money back , or keep it like it is . i don't think your gun smith will be able to make the changes to the cylinder that you have to make it work right , of course that is just a guess .

    if it was me , since the gun has had the conversion done to it which I don't like I would get my money back and just buy a New Model Single Six with both cylinders

    Give the Seller a chance....He's offered to make it right....You really can't ask for more....any Margin He had for a profit has been given the boot...in for a Dime or in for a Dollar.....Makes No differance...He Makes it Right by You....He has a Customer for life...

    There are several possibilities. Since the gun is on consignment, it is possible that who ever brought it in, brought the wrong 22lr cylinder with him and has the correct one at home, possibly with another single six. Also, see if the frame is marked "Magnun only". Between s/n 300,000 and 342,000, Ruger made, for only about three years, a single six magnum only. It may not be a convertible and therefore the owner did not have a lr cyl for this revolver, and just thought the cylinder he had was for that revolver. This revolver had a 6 1/2 inch barrel only. You could also get a lr cylinder for it so I don't know why they made a "magnum Only" revolver, and marked it as that.

    I believe that guns for 22 mag only were marked "22 Mag--"

    According to the nice lady @ Ruger (who took my info and called me
    back within two hours) my serial # 3633xx was born may of 63. The
    model is a RSS5X and according to her it was shipped w/two cylinders.
    Good idea on the consignee...I'll see if they will contact him/her
    just in case he has another SS with a mis-matched cylinder.

    My first firearm purchase from this dealer (I usually buy ammo and other goodies) but if they take care of it...(your right, his margin
    went out the window when he checked it in w/his gunsmith) He'll be
    getting all my business!

    $304 out the door with all the paperwork...I'll give them a week
    or two to get it right...only had it in my hand for less than 24hrs.
    so we didn't get too attached..Thanks all for the replies!!

    Update....
    I had not heard from the shop on the status of the Ruger so I stopped
    by yesterday. This time the owner (and of course his son) are there.
    They were busy so I waited for the owner, his son trotted off to the
    gunsmith area, came back with the Ruger, gave it to dad and sorta
    explained what was up.
    Shop owner asked when it had been purchased (it was paid for on 22 July). He then went to his bound book, and found the guy that had
    put the Ruger on consignment, called him, and the wayward
    cylinder is on it's way back to the shop.
    I bugged me a little that junior hadn't done a thing (other than
    check it into the smith and fail to give me the receipt tag) and
    until I walked in yesterday, poppa didn't know about it...
    Maybe junior needs a lesson in customer service and follow up. He's
    all of 20 years old and I guess he's still learning...
