new stock for Rem 700BDL in 270

I am looking for a new stock for my Remington Model 700BDL stainless steel in .270. I am considering the Hogue overmolded stock with aluminum bedding and a walnut Boyd stock.
Can anyone give me some helpful advice or comments?

    I have the overmolded and a boyd laminate. I like the boyds JRS classic very much. I put it on a 22" barreled 30-06 and it just eats up the recoil. The hogue will be good for quite stalks and gripping with gloves or in the rain/snow. I was a little disturbed at the hollowing out of the forened section of the hogue to reduce weight. If the barrel needs a bedding pad or foreward pressure point it will be a little more difficult to find the surface area to do so. Given my choice, I'd go with the bodys laminate and have it bedded.

    why chase the game when the bullet can get em from here?....

    What are the "wants" that you are going for with the new stock. Do you want a excellent looking custom natural wood stock? Or do you want an ultra light stock? Do you want a superior platform to mount the barreled action in, for improved accuracy? The basic walnut stocks that I've seen come from Boyd's have been very basic indeed. If I was to be doing a nice walnut stock I'd probably give Richard's Mircofit a look/call. Most injection molded stocks have forestock that are just too weak for my wants. When I can move the barrel away from the forestock tip with minimal finger pressure I want no part of that stock. Except for high come end stocks, like the HS precision, I haven't found any that didn't flex too much for me and so I've stopped using them. In my rifle collection I've haven't one that still wears a synthetic stock, lots of laminate, but no sythetic. I haven't tried a Hogue so I can't comment for sure, but I'll bet it fails the forestock test.

    I am just finishing up a project with a boyd's laminate thumbhole stock and it turned out very well. I glass bedded it, and finished it with a hand rubbed tung oil finish. I had quite a bit of inletting to do on it but don't let that scare you off, just take your time with it. It is much easier to take a little more off if too tight but tough to add material.     If you just want to drop in the action to the stock try the Bell & Carlson medalist stock. It has the full aluminum bedding block, the barrel channel free floats barrel and fits the 270 std contour barrel real well. It has a nice decelerator recoil pad. Midway and Lock stock and barrel, and cabelas online carries them.
