22 hornet powders

what is the best "modern" and available powder for 22 hornet loads using 40 & 45 gr bullets. got an old Sako rifle and want to work up some loads with the new powders. thanx

    Try Hodgdon's "L'il Gun"; case volume and remarkable performance at low pressures remarkable. Maybe for the first time ever the handloader can match or exceed factory ammo ballistics. Thay have published data.

    Haven't loaded the hornet for years but max loads of 2400 and Hornady spire points worked best for me. My barrel is a Springfield M2 so .223 diameter bullets work best.
    50 grain bullets didn't stabilize in the 1:16" twist rifling.

    13 grains of Lil'Gun under a 35 grain VMax is the ideal load for my CZ 527. I can't make it group over 3/4 inch.

    All my Hornets shoot well with 13.5 gr of Accurate Arms #1680 and a Small Pistol primer. Accurate reccomnends the small pistol primer with this powder. I just got in yesterday from a prairie dog shoot where several hundreds of this load was used.Both of my shooting buddies use the same load with a 37 gr Calhoon Bullet or a WW 46 gr HP. They shoot to the same point of impact

    I am a new convert to Lil Gun! I have always used 4227 with great results, but Lil Gun is better!
