M1A parts

How does one ID gov't parts for the M1A? Referring to trigger group, bolt, bbl, gas op rod and cylinder.

I may have a "kit" gun lined up.

He has an SA (Genesseo) but I think I'd rather go FA.

    The US parts are marked by manufacturer. It is a shame that the military is using M14s again. CMP use to have some real deals on M14 parts. I have a Polytech that I replaced a lot of the parts with US parts. I bought the parts you listed from them, except for a barrel.

    How do you like the Polytech? I have a Federal Ordinance that I got fairly cheap and was happy with until a guy named Walt Kuleck (from Fulton Armory) spoiled that for me. Something about the firing pin retraction helix being out of spec.

    What ammo do you shoot out of yours? How's it group?

    I liked the Poly fine when they were $350. It is actually more acurate than my Springfield standard grade M1A. I generally hand load for mine with 147 FMJ bullets or shoot surplus NATO ammo. US military trigger group, operating rod, and stock are drop in parts. I bought a spare bolt, but it will have to be fitted. I see these at gunshows in the $800 range. You would be crazy to pay that for one. I get 1 1/2" groups at 100yds with ammo I have loaded with good match brass and 168 gr Sierra match bullets.

    If there's another M1A in my future it will either be this kit on a FA receiver or an FA.

    Did you ever look at an unfired round after cycling into the chamber and see a dimple in the primer? That is the concern with the FO receiver.
