a .270 or a 280?

I need some help here I will be doing some deer hunting soon and maybe black bear to so what caliber is best on both? just wanna buy one gun,place I'l be hunting will be woods and open fields.

    The 280 is a awesome cal. I would go with 280 over the 270.

It's remingtons website so you can only compare their loads but it will give you something to start with.

    problem with the 280 is it is a reloaders round and there is not a wide variety of factory loads for it. if you get the 270 you can kill the same game and be able to find ammo in just about any place imaginable. forgot to mention as ern98 pointed out that the only brand of 280 you will be able to get is ruger, i believe most if not all of the other major AMERICAN gunmakers have phased it out.

    If you are a reloader and can build quality ammo, not just bulk blaze away semiauto ammo, then the 280 is you ideal rifle. Factory ammo for the 280 is scarce, but with reloads all the great 7mm bullets available are open for use. The 280 will shoot 140g just as flat and hard as the 270 but will also load slugs as heavy as 175g. If you don't reload, then go with the 270 as the factory offering are much better for it. Not to mention that there is probably a much greater selection of 270 rifles to buy also. Most 280s these days are built as custom rifles.

    i think most people that arent biased would agree your talking chevy or ford as far as field differences go, so whatever you find you like, you should get and not worry about the minor differences
