I recently recieved an heirloom. It is a Stevens 22-410, 22 long rifle, Proof tested 410 bore , 3 inch chamber. I believe it is with the Tenite forend and stock.
I have some questions.

Where or how can I determine the age of this rifle? I have found patent #'s but no dates.

The stock is a little worst for wear. would it be better to replace the Tenite with walnut or try to locate a tenite replacement stock?

This rifle has been neglected for years. Is there something I can use to recondition the barrel.
I have never owned a gun before but would like to recondition this to be displayed, and can use a little advice.

    I picked one of these up Saturday at a gun show.Not exactly a cream puff,looks like it's been "behind the seat" for a long time.Not all that bad,mostly just dirty and should clean up pretty well and is good and tight.

    My question is;When did Stevens start using the "Tenite" stock?
    This one has the walnut stock,so knowing this would help me narrow down it's age a bit.

    I don't think so.

    But then I've got one and have wondered the same thing.

    I think a .410 slug would be a better idea.[;)]

    The pressure of the 45 Long colt is mild enough for the barrel but I think the rim of the .45 is too thick. In other words, you can't close the action. I load 5 #4 buck in a three inch shell and it's safe, cheap and awesome. So there!

    I am able to close the action with a 45LC round in the chamber. I was just wondering if any body out there has tried firing the rifle in this mannor. I know that slugs and magnum rounds are made for this rifle. Thanks for the replys......[:D]
