semi-wadcutter lead Hunting?

would it be good to use 240 grain lead cast .44 magnum bulets going aprox. 1300 fps for white tail deer?

    If it's a hard cast bullet it probably wont open up on lung shot, and you may be in for a long tracking job. Hit then square in the shoulder with one, and they will go down pretty quick. A hard cast bullet would probably go end to end through a normal sized Whitetail, but would still cause a tracking job.
    You would be better served with a expanding bullet.

    Gun control is hitting what your aiming at.

    Elmer Kieth used his "kieth" style bullet, wich is similar to a semi wadcutter with very good results on deer. I am guessing you are using the redding 240 swc bullet. At least one dropped from that mold.
    This is a question that people will be devided on. Some like an expanding that "dumps" all its energy inside the target. When we are talking about big bores like the 44mag how much more expansion do you need?

    I shoot the 250gr keith at 1350fps for deer and have had good results on the three deer i have hit with it. In my opinion I want a big hole going in and a bigger hole going out. An expanding bullet may not exit. They are made not to. A hard cast kieth style will.

    Keith also designed a 235 grain gas checked hollow point.
    I believe he favored the solids for larger animals like elk and bear and the HPs for white tail deer and softer two legged critters.
    Years back I fired some out of a Blackhawk into water and mud banks and the expansion was great.
    We compared the 235 gr Keith hp with a 357 from an 8 3/8" barreled S&W. The cavity in a stream bank produced by the Keith bullet was magnitudes greater than those from the long barreled 357.
    The finished round is longer than standard and will not feed in my M92.

    I use a 250 grain gas check semi wad cutter I cast from pure linotype.Like other people stated it makes a clean round hole almost a half inch through both side of a deer so they drain out pretty quick.
