Will 44 Mag Chamber in a Marlin 444?
Will a 44 Mag cartridge chamber and fire in a Marlin 444 rifle? A while back an auction ad on GB for a Marlin 444 SS stated that it would also shoot 44 Mag cartridges. Thanks in advance!

The dimensions will work, but that is a lot of freebore. I haven't done it personally. I doubt it would feed more than one from the magazine.

jd - "can" and "should" do not equate, amigo. I'm not even going to look up the dimensional data to confirm if it *is* possible. The guy who posted that comment on the auction was trying to find selling points - however shaky, not widen people's knowledge. Mix & match works at the grocery store; it is a short path to trouble with firearms & ammo.

The case of a 444 Marlin is about an inch longer than the 44 Remington. Very bad idea, forget it, as the others have said.

i don't know it should, i would trade that marlin for a big boy henery .44 magnum, that is what i have killed a nine point with it 0 -

Just to clarify my earlier post . . . the relative *length* is only one, and the most obvious, of the dimensions involved. The diameter of the case body can be critical if the chamber is so voluminous as to allow the the case to be expanded past the elasticity limit of the brass (among other factors / effects), the diameter / thickness of the rim can affect headspacing and action lock, etc.
Using ammunition other than that for which the firearm is marked is Russian Roulette, sometimes with every cylinder loaded.
