Rechamber K-31
I have heard of people rechambering the Swiss K-31. I would like to know if it is a hard project or not and what calibers would work. I just bought a very cheap K-31 and i already have one and would like to rechamber the new one.

YOU COULD POSSIBLY REBARREL TO .308 WIN., UNFORTUNETLY THERE AREN'T ANY COMMERCIAL CALIBERS THAT WILL FIT IN THE MAGAZINE (larger than the original chamber). ONE WILDCAT POSSIBILITY IS THE .30/284. I HAVE SEEN ONE K-31 CHAMBERED FOR THE .30/30 (SLEAVED CHAMBER) BUT THAT IS GOING BACKWARDS. WITH LOADING DIES/BRASS/AMMO READILY AVAILABLE BEST IS TO LEAVE IT AS IS. 0 -

I think it would be interesting to neck the 7.5 Swiss up and down and see what that case can do. I picture that case being phenominal in 7mm or 6.5mm.

The 7.5 Swiss has just a shade more volume than a 6.5X55 due to it's wider base and shoulder. Therefore, I think it could do more velocity wise. It has already proven itself incredibly accurate as has the 6.5.

I agree with your original statement regarding the K-31's. I would not consider modifying one unless it no longer held the aesthetic value it was originally designed for.
I have two of these and both bores are mint. The stock on the better one isn't much to look at, while the stock on the lower value one really leaves a lot to be desired. I am considering at least restocking it and maybe someday rechambering it to a wildcat of the 7.5 case. Again, while I'm not all about jumping in and ruining an original K-31 I am intrigued with having a straight pull custom rifle with a chambering that hasn't been played with much at all.
The other much more feasible option is to modify a Mauser to take the 7.5 wildcat chambering. It would still be a lot of fun. You never know until you try

I am not a collector, I want to be clear about this.
The K31 Swiss rifle is probably one of the very few rifles that I definitely would not modify in any way. Load and shoot it with factory ammo or handloads crafted to match factory loads and sit back and enjoy a truly marvelous, accurate rifle. Let the other butcher a great rifle but I don't think they should be touched. If you want to play with a military rifle to modify, get a Mauser. There's lots of parts for them and millions were manufactured. If you have an extra K31, sell it to someone who really wants one as is. If you're looking for something special, try to find a ZFK3155. This is the Swiss Sniper version of the K31. Look for one with the complete sniping set up including the original scope. It is magnificent!

The 7.5 Swiss is nearly identical to the .284 Win. which has been necked up and down to the fullest extremes. The 6.5-284 is the current long range target favorite while the 25-284 and the 6-284 are very popular in the hunting/varmint fields. Here's an excellent article on the original cartridge:

Sears used to sell sporter K-31's by mail order rechmabered in Win. .308 with a side mount Weaver 4x scope for $49.94 delivered.
Have seen some on the auction boards and a few in local gun auctions over the years.
My neighbor has his fathers and will not part with it. Darn nice rifle too.0 -
