S&W model41-older vs newer
Hello, I'm looking to get a model 41 and I'd like to know if there is quality or performance difference from the older models to the newer ones. I asked S&W and they said that the CNC process makes the newer guns closer to the blueprint specs. I know the fit on the older colts is better, so is S&W just trying to sell me a new gun or is there no real difference between older; A prefixes; and new ones? Thank you in advance, Marc B.

Hello I have been shooting BULLS-EYE for 40 + years and do alot of Ransom rest testing for new shooters as well as my self The model 41's that have been made in the last few years if you SLUG the bore you will find the boar diameter is larger then older barrels . Some ammo will shoot fine but other brands will KEYHOLE 0 -
I haven't shot a new one, but owned several older ones and they shot superb. 0 -
I own an older 41 with the chamber indicator and also a newer one. I like the older one better, but honestly it's not any more accurate as far as I can tell. I'm just a plinker, not a bullseye shooter, so maybe it would make a difference if I was more skilled. I see used 41's for $450 to 550 and for that money they are a great value. 0 -
As previously mentioned, the older 41's have a better finish. Several variations exist....long barreled w/comps and weights, (heavy and light weight) short barrels etc. Finding one with all the extras is a real bonus. Have had these two for some time....great shooters.

I have two of the A prefix 41's on auction, a 5 1/2" and a 7" -- both are 99% and have boxes etc. Not in the cheap range, but whatever you do don't buy one that has been "hammered" just because it is a hundred or so less!!! 0 -
Thank you all very much for your replies, I have a better idea of where to go from here now. I have a HS Victor and I've never been totally happy with it. I'd like to do some bullseye .22 and I think the S&W 41 is the way to go. Again, thanks for the advice. 0
