WWII Mauser Pistol and P38 byf 44 Identification
Hello,
I've been researching these guns that I can't seem to price or find detailed information on. They're not in the Blue Book of Gun Values (26th Edition), and I can't seem to find them anywhere online. If anyone knows of any information, it'd be a big help! I'm giving the descriptions I do have and pictures of both guns.
(1) WAFFENFABRIK MAUSER A.-G. OBERNDORFA N.
MAUSER Pistol
Germany
Written under trigger: 9962
Markings on other side of gun:
Mauser - 6,35
Back of gun: 9961
Groove Wooden Grips
Finish: Blue-Blackish
5-3/8" long, 4" high
Has some sort of symbol on the gun that looks like a sideways U, and some sort of crown.
(2) P.38 byf44 (Might be a WWII Original Walther P38, but not sure)
(P.38 byf4 are the markings on the gun).
Has a weird symbol on it that looks like 3 horizontal lines with a V in the middle and then written under it says "W8A135"
Finish: Black
Any help on these guns would be great! Thanks a bunch!

Your pictures aren't showing. Follow these instructions, they have worked for others.
First thing you need is a site to host your picture. What I mean by that is that you will need to upload your pictures to a web site that will host(display) them for you. You should not use your hard drive to host pictures for safety sake. Use www.photobucket.com to host your pictures.
After you have uploaded your pictures to the site that will host them for you(per their directions), the next thing you will want to do is go to the picture hosting site and view the picture. While you are viewing the picture, right click on it and you'll see another window that should pop up, now click on "properties" and copy the picture URL. If you know how to "copy & paste" this will be a piece of cake.
Now that you have the picture URL and your ready to post your picture. Do the following, use the following code except take out the "*" asterisk. The "*" asterisk is used here only so you can see the code. In other words if I posted the code without the "*" asterisk you will see a picture instead of the code. Anyways use this code to post your picture..

The Mauser .25 auto pistol, is on page 1056 of the BB. It's listed as the "Pocket Model 1910".
The P-38 is on page 730, listed as "byf coded 43-45"0 -

Thanks for helping me out with the picture posting. The image hosting website I usually use is villagephotos.com, but it was giving me some problems, but photobucket turned out nicely.

On p. 730 in the BB theres two options for the gun.
1. "byf" Police Coded 43 or 44 - 9mm Para. cal., eagle F or L
I THINK my gun might be this one because it has the symbol of the "eagle" and has a red F on the gun.
2. "ac" or "byf" CODED 43-45 -9mm Para. Cal., letters are followed by two digit code corresponding to year of mfg. 1943-45. Two line codes are more desirable than single line models. Highest P.38 occurred in 1943 and 1944.
And are you sure you're right about the Mauser? On the top of p. 1056 it doesnt list it as its correct name (labeled on the gun).0 -

Your pistol is a P-38 made by Mauser="byf" in 1944. It's doubtful if it has paramilitary/police markings. Close-up photos of the markings would be the way to tell.
Trust me, your Mauser 25 Auto pistol is listed on page 1056 as a "Pocket Model 1910".0 -
The red "F" you see is telling you it's in a "firing" mode rather than safe. Notice it's proximty to the safety? You have the most common WWII P.38 of them all.
The "three lines with a "v" is the Waffenapt (acceptance mark) and it's WAa135.
The little 1910 was most likely made in the 30's.
Both pistols were produced at Oberndorf.

The manufacturer of the P-38 has been correctly identified by the experts on this forum.
For furture reference the P-38 codes are:
ac = Walther
byf = Mauser
cyq = Spreewerke
The Spreewerke pistols are usually considered to have the lowest quality of finish. The ac coded pistols are usually considered the most desirable.
