Hog Hunting

I'm planning a wild hog hunt.In thhe groups opinion is my 30-30 marlin adequate our should I think about upgrading to 35 Remington?? any other suggestions??? I may just be looking for an excuse to buy another rifle

    30-30 should be just fine. I have killed many with the same caliber.

    30-30 will do fine as long as you do your job.I've killed a bunch of pigs with smaller guns.

    Shot placement is very important if you don't want to be trackin' through the brush after one.Trust me,you don't want to run up on a wounded hog(read=pissed off) with nowhere to go.Ask me how I know.

    Best spot?

    In,or just behind the ear.

    Your 30/30 will do just fine, just pick, or load a good heavy bullet, and place it in the correct area, and enjoy the fine eating.
    Even the lowly .22 LR has been known to put them in the freezer from time to time........

    Gun control is hitting what your aiming at.

    Think twice about going after any of Hogzilla's kin and keep the range reasonable, too.

    Both calibers are not much different. Your better off with the 30-30 and it should do just fine for Hogs.

    35Rem Remington Express
    150 grain PSPCL
    Energy Foot Pounds Muzzle 1762, 100 yards 1169, 200 yards 755.

    30/30 Remington Express
    150 grain SPCL
    Energy Foot Pounds Muzzle 1902, 100 yards 1296, 200 yards 858.

    I like the Marlin but a friend suggested using the Winchester 94. He claims that Marlin's micro groves don't work well with heavy cast bullets which you need for hogs.[8D]

    Heck Rednek, Did you get talked out of getting another gun? Well then maybe a Ruger revolver in 22 mag for that coup-de-gras in the forehead.

    what???micro groove not working well? he may have just had a bad experience with one, but as all gun companys, u get good ones, and u get ones not as good. y father 336c (carbine) lobs a 170 remington core lokt, jsp, into 3/4 inch groups at 11 yards, believe it or not. i'll get pics up here one day for you all [8D]. its just luck of the draw.
