Charles Daly 1911 .45

Can any of you tell me : Who makes Charles Daly 1911 .45 Cal Semiautomatic pistols; What is their quality; Are they worth $500 for a commemorative model? I'm brand new here, and I hope I've done this correctly and have not violated any posting rules!

    Hello IMHO I think you would be better served with a Springfield . The Charles Daly is made in ASIA the steel is on the soft side and some standard aftermarket parts "BARREL ETC" will not fit these frames and slides.I would also stay away from ANY Commemorative no matter who makes it . A gun produced to be a collector item seldom becomes one.Even a USED pistol KIMBER COLT SPRINGFIELD would in most cases be a better buy."PRAISE THE HARDBALL GUN"

    Charles Daly , manufactured in the "Philippines" (asia?), the importer was / is KBI , Harisburg , Pa. , I have had s few of these , even have one (a 'officers model?) in my safe , never have had a problem or had to do any 'smithing' on one of these ...Mine shoots and works just fine ...No its not a 'colt' , but not at that price either ...Some folks dont like them because of where its made and or the name ???

    [8D]--In 2001, Patrick Sweeney-tested the Daly- Gov't model-Blued/fixed sights/same mkg's as Previously ment. Mr. Sweeney was very happy with the performance and Accuracy-for the price!![:)][:)][:)][:D]

    I have a couple of them,not bad guns for the money,I have built on a couple of the empire grade frames and I have never had any problem interchanging aftermarket parts with a series 70.there are a few you will need to fit but you have to fit some parts on any 1911.as far as soft metal,there are very high dollar firearms out there with aluminum or poly frames

    I've had one for couple years no problems except it wont feed anything but round nose, other then that I think its worth the money.

    Fork out a few more dollars, and think of the resale value ,CD has never been highly rated along the line of rock island, both are ok but you will be stick money into them just to get reliability out of them, while I do not own one but only because I will not buy one, I do know of several that has purchased them only to take a beating on re sale to upgrade anyway

    Thanks for the replies and help. I have an opportunity to purchase one of these in a commemorative edition, due to my membership in an association, in a field I retired from. I'm just trying to decide if I should or not. Your information is giving me the pros and cons of it. I appreciate all your input. Dan

    I have a Rock Island Armory, also made in the Filappeans(sp?) that ishas been 100% reliable right out of the box with no break in. This thing is as good as my Glocks and puts my Colt and Kimber to shame.

    Soft steel??

    Go a look at some WWI & WWII 1911's if you want to see how soft steel performs!!!
