Hi of the many variations of skss out there which is a good accurate rifle? thanks pajtas

Hokkmike is right about accrate if you are trying to shooting long range. Because the SKS is a milarty rifle/carbine it is not ment for long range shooting and will not be as accruate as say a bolt action or a Ruger Mini-14. However the most accrate of these rifles would probably be the Chinese SKS according to www.serplusrifle.com at 100 yards. Realy I don't know what you are planning so it is hard to give advice when I don't know the whole story, not that it is my concern. Hope that helps.

It's a luck of the draw for the most part.
Of the variations that I have had or shot, I have not found any that you could EXPECT to be better than the rest.
Yugo's seem to be fine, consistent between guns and a good buy. I had a Norinco that shot very well, and have another that shoots fliers although it looks near new. I had a russian that looked like it had been terribly abused and had a bore with more than one 'problem area'...but after a dozen 'fouling shots' it was just fine.
Considering what the gun is made to do, more than likely the one that consistently shoots tighter groups will be the exception. Just expect no better than 3" and be happy if you get one that will do better.
Someone that is more knowledgeable of all the SKS types can probably give you some better information. That's just my 2 cents of observation.

you asked two questions.
Any Yugo or Russian new or as new SKS are "good" rifles. They are well made, reliable Military rifles. They are NOT production made rifles for the US consumer. They are military and look like it. Some are collectors items, others are shooters.
HOKKMIKE is right "accurate" is in the eyes of the beholder. The standard SKS with battle sights can hit a coffee can out to about 150 yards. Some ammo is known as more accurate than others, surplus military ammo is accurate enough to plink with. Careful handloading can get groups tighter, but to what end. even on a good day the round is not designed to drive tacks.
All in all any SKS is a fun, cheap and reliable rifle.0 -

Maybe I just got lucky,but my Norinco,w/folding stock(longer LOP)and el-cheapo bipod mounted as far forward as possible consistantly gives me 1" groups at 100yds.,shooting prone w/Wolf ammo and open sights.
That's IF I do my part,of course.[:D]

They're a mixed bag, I have a 16" paratrooper that'll drive tacks and a Romanian 20" that will do the same. I also have a few others that shoot pretty mediocre groups. It seems to be luck of the draw, but usually Romanian and Russian SKS's are more consistently accurate, however I've heard the Yugo's are pretty good as well

You have a good question but there isn't a good answer available. Seems to be decided on an individual basis with luck a big factor. All I have shot have been "good" but none "excellent" shooters. Kind of like motor oil brands, they all get the job done almost equally. Personal preference and price usually determines which to buy.

Not as accurate as a Mini-14? I would be willing to bet the average SKS will put an average Mini-14 to shame. Especially after that toothpick of a non-military configuration barrel gets a little hot.

Yes, as much as I blast the Mini-14, they are still a fun gun. Everytime I have sold one, I instantly regret it and want another. Not because they are accurate, but they would still be intimidating to a group of several dozen handcuffed prisoners. [;)]
