Restoring leather
Thanks to good GB advice, Simple Green and paint thinner are removing that hardened cosmoline from my Yugo M48. So my next question is what restores the old leather items that came with it (ammo pouch, sling & bayonet sheath frog). Thanks

Most folks that post on the forums recommend Pecard's Antique Leather Dressing. Most also say DON'T use Neat's Foot Oil. 0 -
To make a LONG story short, I have had good luck 'soaking' some leathers with a high silicone content spray (for 'waterproofing' boots and outdoor gear, I believe it is called 'camp dry'). After about 3 soakings, inside and out, and letting the carrier evaporate, the leather stays pliable, very water resistant, and is 'slick' . It has seemed to prevent holster wear marks on two of my pistols.
I can't find any other reason to recommend it, but I would use it again. Good Luck

Something you might look into would be 'Bick 4'. It moisturizes, rejuvenates, preserves and polishes. I use it on my cowboy boots regularly. I have not had cracking that I used to get using other 'oil based' products. I have also used it with great success on a few slings that I have had sitting around for a long time and not being used. -Godd luck but I know it will work.
You will find this usually at your nearest western clothing store.

Well I have never used it on holsters but I did restore a ww2 German helmet for a reinactor and to soften up the headliner I just used some mothers brand leather upholstery conditioner cream. After about 3-4 applications of soaking and rubbing it in, it really softened back up and stayed that way. You can get it anywhere even wally world(Wal Mart). Only problem is that it has a strong smell to it. 0 -
MO, Two things I use for any and all leather goods I own are 1) Beeswax and 2) Mink oil. The beeswax is an excellent waterproofer and leather moisturizer at the same time and the mink oil is a protectant and keeps the leather pliable. These also work great on leather hunting boots. [:D][:D]

An old bootmaker told me to use regular vegetable oil. Has always worked great for me. No fancy and costly formulas. 0 -
I use olive oil on my wifes horse tac and saddles. Her horse trainer has been using it on his barn tac/saddles for 30/40 years and is the one who told me about it....
