price info for Winchester 12 guage shotgun
I would like to purchase a Winchester 12 guage pump action shotgun from a friend but am stuck on putting a value to the gun. The identifying numbers on the gun is Model 12 - 12 ga - 2 3/4 cham. There is also a number 998913 stamped twice on the chamber. Any info on how to price this gun would be appreciated. Think the gun was purchased in 1944 or 1945.

The value will be predicated on several different things;
(1) Which variant is it - Field Grade, Skeet Gun, Trap Gun, Pigeon Grade, etc.
(2) Barrel length and type (plain, Vent Rib, Solid Rib)
(3) Choke size/type
(4) Originality (is it still 100% factory original?)
(5) Graded condition (how much of the original factory finish {bluing} remains on the frame and barrel)

i , myself feel that the model 12 is over rated and too high priced, and if he is a friend i would go $250-$400 price range. anything more and your paying top dollar and who wants to do that! 0 -
Redman.com: you wouldn't be much of a friend if you paid $400. for a Pigeon Grade Md 12 with #5 engraving, (done by Ulrich at the time this 1943 Md 12 was made) with "B" Carved stocks. It would have a value of $3500-$10,000.
Granted most Md 12 12 ga. guns are 30 in full choked, plain barrel field grades, with a value of about $250-$500. But without knowing anymore than what was said an exact range is hard to establish.

As has been said, your friends gun was made in the early 40s [42-44], making it a war years gun. That alone makes it collectable because it was either owned by the military [usually marked as such,but not always] or was one of the very few model 12s assembled for sale to the public during the war. This vintage model 12 is one of my favorites because of the 40s nostalgia of a country pulling together during the war...I can just picture the gun being used for gunnery practice on some army air corps base,or being used at some military base Trap range for recreation. Better yet, being purchased by some hunter at a hardware store that had few new guns in there racks and even fewer adult aged males around to buy them.....Yea that era model 12 is my favorite, no doubt about it..............

First off I admit to a great love of model 12's !! The first one I ever shot was in 1968 while I was in H.School It belonged to a friend and I had never had a shotgun that felt so natural in my hands. It was 1973 before I bought one and I've had several people shoot them since then, and just like me, they commented on how natural it felt in the hands,really great balance! And a 20 or 16 guage with a 26 inch IC barrel - you can hardly miss!! 0
