FN Patrol Bolt Rifle

i was wondering if anyone out there has one and what they like and don't like about this rifle. i am wanting the one with the 20" barrel. i was going to trade my weatherby for one yesterday, but didn't know if i was going to be satisfied with it. since i posted this, i just purchased one off GB for $599 the one i saw yesterday was $819. so i got a deal, now lets hear the good bad and ugly of this rifle. also it comes with a picatinny rail, which i have absolutely no experience with. information about mounting a scope on these will also be helpful.

When guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns.

    I believe it is pretty much a Win 70 with a heavy barrel.

    The major portion of the rifle should be terrific since it is as kj says, a Winchester CRF with a heavy barrel. We all know that Winchester has a good reputation for accuracy and there is no question about it being chambered for the .308 Win. It's a good all around combination.

    The only hesitation that I would have is the Hogue stock. According to the press releases it was designed specifically by Hogue/FN for use on these rifles to enhance accuracy and stability. The full length bedding block coupled with the pillar system should be fine. The complaints about Hogue stocks prior to this was due to having to much flex in the forearm and the full length block should take care of that. The pillars are supposed to keep the receiver from being stressed and therefore more accurate.

    Shoot the thing and let's hear how it does! Get some Federal GMM as a standard and then try some reloads or even some of the Black Hills stuff.

    The Picatinny rail is a system developed to allow interchangeability of accessories between rifles without having to adjust the mounting brackets or scope mounts for spacing each and every time.

    The military is a heavy user of the concept and so then are the military look-a-likes and tactical circles. It's much better than the Weaver type mounts and there are a bunch of manufacturers using the concept which means that it's readily available. I use the design a lot.
