1911 component differences between calibers

Okey doke, I'm going to try and get all of life's problems knocked out in one thread. Here's the skinny.. [:)]

I'm building this 1911 in .357 Sig, and while pricing out parts I've come to a bit of confusion. Seeing as it's built off a .40S&W casing, would I have to look specifically for parts made for .40S&W like firing pin, extractor, etc, or could I also do alright with parts made for one chambered in .38 super or 9mm?

    Due to different widths of case and breechface on the slide, you would have more than a little fitting to do. I would buy a dedicated .40 slide and save yourself the possibility of chewing up a good slide in 9mm or 38 Super. If you're determined to retool on, I'd opt for the 38 super slide since it'll be pretty close to the right breechface already

    I'd already figured on the .40 slide for the .357, but it's the other goods that got me wondering if I could be slightly more flexible on. I just don't want to run into a snag where I've got a preferred manufacturer(s) in mind for several key components and not be able to find what I'm looking for from them in .40.

    You can also look for 10mm slide and parts. They will be the same as a 40 S&W. I would be interested in how it works out. I tried to convert a 10mm 1911 to 357 SIG several years ago but I couldn't get a barrel. I tried to get Olympic to make me one and they said they couldn't it to work in 357 SIG. I bought a Fire Dragon Barrel for my Glock 22 and played with the round in it. This was before Glock offered a pistol in 357 SIG.

    Bar-Sto makes .357 barrels for 1911 now, which came to much relief since Ed Brown dropped their line and I couldn't find a FireDragon barrel for the 1911 like I'd heard they made. The Bar-Sto barrels can be picked up through Midway on a 30 day turnaround and they come with bushing, and installed link.

    I'll keep you posted once I get a finished setup together and let you know how it works out.
