H&R model 622
Friend of mine just picked up a H&R model 622, serial #AD83806 and we are wondering about date of manufacture. Also, upon examining it, we are a bit confused about loading/unloading the pistol. When the cylinder retaining rod is pulled out, the cylinder drops out. At halfcock, the cylinder rotates enough to allow loading of 1 chamber at a time, there is no push rod for unloading. We're assuming that the casing will have expanded after firing and won't free fall when the cylinder is rotated so that the fired shell lines up with the slot on the frame. Not sure I'm explaining this right. Anyway, any help appreciated. Also, how about approximate value? The gun is obviously well used, well maintained, but not mint or even excellent condition. Lots of fine cleaning/polishing scratches on the frame, well repaired but cracked plastic grip, usual wear and tear, etc.
The barrel is marked .22cal, will it fire .22 short, long, and long rifles? obviously not a 22 magnum or .22WRF either, we assume.

Gun Broker auctions have 622s like new with starting prices $50 or less but with higher reserve. You describe yours in pretty tired condition so $40 more or less as an estimate of value. You described loading OK. Removal of empties take out cylinder as you described and use the cylinder center pin to push out the fired hulls. Suggest for more info get on Gun Broker home page and type H&R 622 in the search box which will bring up those now on auction. I believe one gave its DOM. 0 -

h&r used the letter codes 'AD' in 1967. the model 622 and 922 were meant to be loaded and unloaded with the cylinder removed using the center pin. the opening on the right side is a view port, most are too small for a cartridge to go through.
