Removal of standard stock AR-15??

I want to put a pre ban style stock on an AR-15. What is involved in removing the regular stock from the rifle? I know how to install the telescoping stock once I remove the standard stock.

    IIRC, it's just a long screwdriver coming in from the rear end, perhaps removing the buttplate first? Sorry, it's been years since I had anything but a telescoping model. Drill and tap the hole in the lower for a 10-32 screw, and you will never again be hassled by that pesky retainer detent and spring. I did the same for the safety detent hole, but had to shorten the detent and its spring. Cut a tiny notch in the right side of the safety, and you can then reach in with something, depress the detent and remove the safety, without having to remove the pistol grip.

    bleu's right. TAke off the buttplate and there's a slotted bolt in there.

    Once I take out that bolt, are there going to be any springs flying around that I should be aware of? I know there is a small spring that goes horizontally into the rear of the receiver, right hand side and then there is the spring and plunger that hold the buffer assembly in place. Anything else I should watch out for? I remove the standard stock and under the stock, will I find the buffer assembly similar to what is on the telescoping stock?

    similar buffer, but shorter, I think. You can remove the buffer and spring without removing the stock. Just open the gun like a single shot shotgun. Press down on the buffer retainer plunger, remove the buffer and spring forward out of the stock. Removing the stock screw releases no spring, but removing the stock frees up the little detent in the rear of the lower receiver. That's the one I said to tap for 10-32 threads, and never have to worry about that detent and spring again.

    Take the top screw out of the butt plate and the stock will slide right off. Buffer tube will then unscrew counter clockwise.
    The buffer tube on the telescoping stock will be part of the stock.
