Winchester .225

I've had a Winchester model 70 in .225 for quite a while now. It has a bull barrel and a Leopold scope and shoots like a dream. However,finding ammo is difficult and I'm not a reloader. If I do find some at a gun show in Houston or Pasadena it's always $20 a box of 20.
Question. Is it worth my while to keep it in the event it should become something rare or trade it off for something else?

    I would say,it's already somewhat rare.If it were mine and I was you I'd take up reloading.[:D]

    I have the same gun with a 4 X 16 Burris on it. If you think it shoots good with factory ammo try some loads with all the different bullets and powders that have become available since 1964 or 5. If you don't want to reload check with one of you gun buddies I bet one of them reloads and for the price of a set of dies and a couple of favors they will be glad to load a few rounds for you. Good luck. It is a nice shooting round just couldn't compete with the 22-250 in popularity.

    I have only shot about 20 rounds thru it in 4 years because of the scarcity of the ammo but I now have 3 full boxes and I'm saving the brass. It is one heavy rifle with the heavy barrel.But as I said,it shoots like a dream. I'm itching for a DPMS or something similar and the thought of trading it had crossed my mind.
    I'll check on reloads at the local gun shop. Thanks.

    J's Gun Shop in Lampasas, Texas, Tel 512-556-6614 has plenty of .225 ammo. Say the guy who bought the Tokarev sent you.

    Do a search for ammo for sale on Gunbroker and I'm sure you'll find a bunch, if it was me I'd keep it, shoot it, and take care of it while it goes up in value and buy a DPMS or what ever you like also!

    Lampassas,my most favorite place in Texas. I know a guy up there with 200 or so acres and I hunted there a few years,it was great. His place is actually in Burnett county south of Lampassas.
    I will definitly contact the gun shop you mentioned and see about getting additional ammo.
    I have checked Gunbroker numerous times and only once did I find any ammo,it was almost $40 for 25 rounds,so I passed.
    I guess I'll hang onto it and as suggested get me a DPMS this fall when I can afford it. Thanks for all.
