shotgun anatomy

I want to take the barrel off a shotgun for mailing. Should I just start unscrewing things or will parts spring everywhere? lol...it's a winchester model 12 20 gauge....I am pretty mechanical but I thought that I would check before doing something for the first time.....

    your manual should explain haw to take the barrel off. If you don't have a manual check online with winchester. a lot of times they have downloadable ones.

    Just hang tight. There are several folks here who can tell you what to do

    I WOULD RATHER BE DUCK HUNTING.

    On the end of the magazine tube,the cylinder under the barrel,you will find a pin that goes through the end toward the muzzle.Push that out which ever way it will move.Then turn the end as far as possible..Then slide the forearm toward the muzzle.When it is at the futherest point the barrel will turn, releasing the unit from the action...Now you have two pieces and much easier to pack..If you still have no luck,haul it to a gunshop for information or to a range if one is near..Good luck.modoc

    I got this far and there is a bar that extends back from the forearm into the action. I have the magazine tube extended out a good 2.5 - 3 inches but is hung up with this bar I think. or maybe it's the clippy-do-da that holds the magazine tube to the barrel. Do I unscrew that?

    Never mind I wasn't pushing the forearm forward hard enough. One of the downsides of being the weaker vessle I guess....
