Is a cheap Mauser 7.62X39 conversion possable?
Just a quick question. Is there a cheap Mauser 7.26X39 conversion kit or something? Thanks

It is certainly possible, however it would require a new bbl plus modification to the magazine, bolt face and extractor. I don't think it could be done for uder $300. Is that cheap enough?

I think Century was doing some 7.62x39 conversion 5 or 6 years ago. If you do a search you might find one. The guns that Century was building weren't real good, but the actions and barrels were sound and should make a good enough core for a project. Still if you were going to start from scratch why in the world would you pick that round. .308 surplus is just about as cheap and the cartridge is much more flexable. 0 -

Welcome to the forum. I am asssuming that you meant to write 7.62 instead of 7.26.
Do you have an 8mm Mauser? If so what action and make?
Because of the strong action of the Mauser '98 Long Actiion Rifle, many have been converted to .30-06, sporterized and scoped for hunting. Such conversions are not really practical cost wise in relation to the fine modern American rifles today that can be bought at very reasonable prices. It is a workable and enjoyable project,
though, that many have undertaken and some fine pieces of very accurate and reliable weaponry have resulted.
The 7.62x39 Soviet is such an entirely different cartridge to the 8mm or the .30-06 though, that I would think the action could not accomodate it.
Maybe you could give the forum a little more insight as to your line of thinking and why you would be considering such an idea.
I'm not even 10 percent the expert some of the folks that post here are, so maybe a couple of them will chime in now, to correct me if I'm wrong.[^]

Numrich has kits for 93/95 or 94/96 actions that include bbl, follower, spring and spacer for about $100.

To answer your questions yes I own a 8mm Mauser, yes I ment to say 7.62(long day), I do not know the make but it is a K98 in wonderful condition. I can not offer any pictures because I don't have a camera and the collage might get a little nervous if I brought it to get photographed.[:D] This question was posted out of shere fun of it. I had heared that some people had convered thier Mausers to use 7.62 ammo and it being the cheapest ammo, next to .22, was interised in finding out if a cheap converstion was possable. I have at this point no plans of doing this to my rifle, the condtion of the rifle is to good to do this. However if I found a cheap Mauser that is in need of a overhall it would be a possablity. These plans are not at the pressent because I am in school and have already spent too much on two "new" rifles, a SKS and the Mauser, and ammo for them. This is just a plan for this fall or maybe sooner if I get the money. Also I need to find more room for my other guns before I get more.[;)] Anymore information would be helpful. Thanks

Just a quick answer. Concentrate on your schooling , and shoot to relax.

Back when Sportsmans Guide sold guns, they offered a Mauser converted to 7.62x39. They sold them to anyone w/o the need for and FFL as the guns were "considered" antiques. I recall they wanted $400+ for them.
Charles Daley offers a Mini Mauser in 7.62x39. Here's one from a past auction.
