Hi. What, if any are the differences in the cylinder locking bolt between the second and third generation colt SAA? Thanks.

    Hello,

    I just had a few questions about a Colt SAA first generation that I have had locked away for quite a few years. The gun was my father in laws, he passed away many years ago. I finally got around to looking into the gun and possible selling it. First I contacted Colt and obtained all the information via there archive service that I could. The serial # for the gun is 102863. The information that we obtained from Colt states the gun had a 7 1/2 inch barrel with a blue finish, .45 caliber. The gun in it's current state has a nickel finish and a 4/3/4 inch barrel. Obviously the gun has been reworked. How does this affect the value and is there anyway to identify who did the work and when? Any information would be appreciated. I attached a couple of pictures also. Thanks for all the help.

    the gun is a model P single action ARMY, not a percussion dragoon or Colt navy.

    My guess is that it would sell in the $2,000-2,500 range, maybe as much as $3,000 if you get the right buyer.

    Neal, Thank you very much for your input. You are the only one who told me what I wanted to know. I dont have a camera to post a picture as was requested ,but the gun is 100% NEW. It has been sitting in a safe since it was purchased in 1956. Thanks again. Bob

    According to the Blue Book:

    "Early 2nd Generation - ser. no. range 0001SA to approx 39,000SA, shipped in one-piece black box similar to pre-war box. Mfg. from 1956-1965.

    .45LC cal.

    100% - $2,350

    Add 30% for original black box in good condition."

    Sooooo.....in 100% condition with the original box, Blue Book value is $3,055.

    Here is pic 5-1/2 2 gen w/ its original Ad folder [box is wrong]...if you look close you can see it sold in 57' for a mere $125.
    [it also is a an early 4didgit piece in .38 spl.]

    i would think a real collector would pay more the then blue book if its in as good a shape as stated, there are very few left around in that condition .... just my 2 cents [:)]

    My 2nd gen 45LC SAA, 14238SA came in a 2 piece black box.
    It sold new for $125.
