Shipping to myself

I live in AK and am going to washington on vacation in about a week or so. I plan on purchasing a gun in WA and i was wondering if it is easier to ship the gun to myself when i come back or just claim it as baggage and go through declaring it and what not. There is also a FFl daler in town in case the other two options arent the best.

    It's certainly going to be cheaper to ship it as baggage. But, if it is lost or damaged, you may have a difficult time collecting all or part of your loss. All airlines have a limit on how much they pay for lost or damaged baggage, so you must check with your carrier.

    I don't know if UPS/FEDEX require air shipping between those states, but you might want to check the rates on their website.

    The only time I shipped a long gun to AK from AR, UPS required it go by air. Cost was about triple the ground rate. As an individual, you can ship a long gun to yourself via USPS, at least it is legal under federal law. Postal regulations may give you a problem. I would take it as baggage when I returned home.

    Ive done this before , and with the new "air-line b.s." , I would not even think of flying with any-thing (& I have a badge)!!! By the way I also beleive it is legal , and it works !!!

    gskyhawk, The question concerned getting a long gun from the state of Washington to the state of Alaska. Have you shipped long guns via UPS ground from the lower 48 states to Alaska? When I had to ship one there was no ground service between the lower 48 and Alaska. That was several years ago and they may drive across Canada now.

    I talked to the Post Office here and they have no problem recieving guns and when i talked to USPS customer service they said as long as its unshootable i could ship it. I dont like using UPS ground cause it takes 2 friggin weeks and sometimes more to get here. Its legal to ship USPS so thats what im gonna use. Cheap and efficiant thanx gents.
