Beretta Bobcat 22LR - Good or Bad?

I posted for opinion about a pocket pistol some days ago and received some very good responses. Now I'm looking at a Beretta Bobcat 22LR. I'll be carrying in my pocket for self defense and in the automobile.

Experts - Any opinion on this pistol & caliber for self defense and concealability? My dealer cost is $189.00 delivered, which makes it quite attractive.

    Had one years ago, when they first hit the street. The grip was to wide. It caused problems with cc. When I shot it, the movement of the pistol in my hand caused the manual safety to engage. Got rid of it.

    If I were you, I would take a good look at the KelTec line of .32 & .380 Pocket Pistols. Their in the same price range and size as the Beretta, and obviously are chambered for a much more potent cartridge.

    What he said. I hjave a Kel-Tec P3AT .380, and it is a very good little gun for $250; a whole lot more punch than a .22 as well. If you are dead-set on the Beretta Bobcat's, I would suggest going with a .25 ACP version. Much more reliable due to both the cartridge design and the higher quality of .25 ammunition.

    Save the seals-club a liberal instead.

    i agree with hunter get 38 get more power and plus what is a punnie little 22 gonna due beside po the guy u are shooting at in the heat of the moment

    You could just as easily conceal a Kahr MK-9 or MK-40. I just got an MK-9 and am looking forward to carrying it when my new holster arrives.

    You may want to look at a Taurus pt22. It is DOA and has no exposed hammer. It can deliver 9, 22 cal. pellets. How is this so different from buck shot? If you shot a bad guy in the face 3 times with a 22, I bet that he backs off and ducks for cover. If not you have 6 more shots. A shot to the knee might also work with a 22. I have never shot anyone, or been shot. Hope I ever will. But I think that a well placed 22 sends a strong message.

    I have a .25 Bobcat. It's a good pistol, but marginally too big & too wide at the grip for CC in a pants pocket. And, no one ever made a (legal) leather pocket holster for it.

    If I were replacing it today, I think a .32 or .380 like the KelTec would be my choice. If you MUST have a tiny gun, look for a Beretta 951 (Minx).

    By the way, don't ever keep a defensive gun in your car. There are too many things that could go wrong. If you can't carry it on your person, leave it in your safe at home.

    My objection to a 25 is that when I was in law enforcement I saw a fellow come into the emergency room with about five 25 rounds stuck in his chest, like pellets. The doctor simply took pliers and pulled them out - no harm done to the victim. He dressed and went home. The ends of the rounds were literally stuck out of his skin and could be touched. I was hoping a 22 LR would penetrate better than that!

    If the rounds were literally visible, I would have to assume the victim was wearing rather heavy clothing. a .251" 50 gr. slug moving at 900 FPS is gonna go more than skin-deep if it is not slowed down first. When people compare the .22 LR to the .25 ACP, they often do so using factory published energy numbers-forgetting that .22 LR is tested in a 20" rifle and .25 is tested in a 2" pistol. From the same length barrel, the numbers are all but identicle. Speer sells a 35 gr. gold dot load that I have tested in ballistic clay- Significantly greater wound from my Beretta 950 BS than a CCI stinger produced out of my AMT back-up .22

    Save the seals-club a liberal instead.

    jdyer- .22 is better than nothing. Ask the Reagan or Kennedy families about the effectivness of .22 rounds. They can be as deadly as any. I have been shot at, and I can assure you my LAST concern was "what caliber is that?"
    Beretta makes the same, (practically), pistol in .32. A little more $$, but that would be my personal choice over the .22. Concider the cost of a long term weapon over the years you expect to carry it. Think long term, think concealabiliity, think reliability, think effectiveness.
    My personal carry weapons are a Seecamp .32 and a Beretta 84. The Seecamp is VERY concealable as would a beretta bobcat/tomcat. I think tomcats can be had for about $200 or so, just a few more bucks than the bobcat. My 2 cents-Good luck with your choice.
