Newbie needs info on browning and Winchester

Hi everyone,
I was told this is the place to find info on guns.
I inherited a Browning A5 made in 1952 and I have a Winchester 30 govt 06 made in 1950.
they were my fathers and he was the original owner. They have been used very little and have been well cared for. The Winchester has some nicks and small scratches on the stock. the Browning is in excellent condition. As far as I know there have been no changes to the guns.

I have a very limited knowledge of guns. What should I look for to determine value. I have owned them since 1987. I am going to sell them and want to represent them honestly.

    Welcome jswift!
    In regard to valuations for these guns you need to furnish more info. Some one wcould make a stab at the A5, but more infois needed for the Winchester. You should see a model number on the barrel. Furnish that and the first three or four digits of the serial number and some of the fellers can and will help you. The serial no. should be in the form "123xxxx" or however many characters total after the first few digits. What I'm trying to say is to make the number of digits and x's equal to the number of digits in the S/N. The only reason for this is some folks are reluctant to provide complete S/N's for their guns.

    The Winchester serial # is 138xxx and it is a model 70.

    The Browning is #359xxx. The metal work is great on this gun. Very ornate.

    Any help would be great.

    Manufacture date on the Model 70 30/06 is 1950. You should be able to look on the Gunbroker auction and see what pre-64 model 70's are selling for. If I were to venture a guess I'd say $800 with the right buyer, plus or minus $100.
