ruger MK 2 trigger

I am considering buying a Ruger Model 77 Mk 2 in 6mm Rem. I have pretty much decided to go Ruger as I really like the caliber and this is one bolt action I can get that is chambered for it. My question is for all you Ruger buffs. I prefer a fairly light trigger and I have heard that Ruger triggers are pretty stiff. Should I expect to replace the trigger with an after market type or do you think it will be adjustable enough (how light can I set the factory trigger?)

    i never really noticed how horrible ruger triggers were until i bought a remington 700. if you are going to go the ruger route, pick up a timney trigger to put in it. it may be gun to gun though, as my .257 roberts trigger seemed okay, but my 25-06 is super stiff. the thing is, the 25-06 is 10 years older. i love how they shoot and you will definitely be pleased with it.

    I agree on the Timney trigger. I put a "drop-in" Dayton-Traister on my Ruger Hornet. Took two hours and a grinder to drop it in. It was too wide for the slot and had to grind sides down then safety would not work and had to modify it further. Works OK now but was a pain in the posterior. Timney should be easy installation.

    Great advice, I actually have had Timneys put in three Mausers (2 yugos and a turk) and loved them all. Makes good sense to me for a Ruger too. Thanks a ton.

    The timney trigger for the M77 MK2 is great, but takes a couple hours, and a good file to put in. Anyone who tells you it is "drop in" is lying to you. I set my last one at about #2, and it broke like glass. Cost is about $75.

    Well I wouldn't do it myself anyway -- I would ask my gunsmith to install it. I have learned that lots of things that are supposed to be "fool proof" and "as easy as 1, 2, 3" still take some experience and knack, and I don't have either.
