bersa thunder 380
Does anyone have any information as to the reliability of these pistols ? Are they worthy of personal defense carry ? Do they like a certain brand of ammo better than others ? I would appreciate any and all sugestions on this pistol .

I have been combing over auction part of the website as well as the forums for an affordibly priced, well built conceal carry gun to take with me when I am on the road or camping. I think I have narrowed it down to this type of gun. It seems like it fits the bill & won't break the bank. Any other comments, suggestions before I take the plunge? 0 -
Bersa Thunder .380 is a good pistol, priced well below others with the same features. It's cheap, because it's made in Argentina, which is in big financial trouble.
P.S. No pisto or other automatic weapon is any better than the cartridge in the chamber and the nut behind the buttplate (grip) garbage in--garbage out..or not0 -
Big difference between cheap and inexpensive. The litle Bersa is inexpensive but not cheaply made (materials or quality). A very good value for the money.

Before you jump for the Bersa Thunder [23 oz empty] take a look at what Kel Tec has to offer. The much smaller Kel Tec P3AT [6+1 .380], is 10.8 ounces fully loaded.

I have a Bersa Thunder 380. It is Ok for the price, I paid about $170 a few years ago. In my opinion not a conceal carry piece, more of a plinker. It is NOT a Sig 230/232 or Walther quality clone by any means. The steel seems softer than some quality guns, as mine is wearing at normal wear areas but at a rapid pace. I have had some failure to feed and eject problems, perhaps 2% of rounds fail.
After having said that it is a fun gun to shoot, easy in the hand, takes down quickly, cleans easily, has OK accuracy. Magazines seem plentiful these days. If you can get one for under $200 you have a fair deal.
IMHO for a few more bucks the Sig 232 or Beretta 380/ BDA, even used, are MUCH better guns. Good luck with whatever choose.--Kevin[:)]0 -
Bersa Thunder 380's are excellent pistols. Do a search on these forums and you will find LOTS AND LOTS of posts about this pistol.

I own a Bersa Thunder 380. It is very accurate for me. I have never had any problems from it. I use it as my carry weapon most of the time other times I carry a 38 special. One of my friends fired my Bersa and loved it so much he went out the next day and bought one. He uses it as his main carry gun all the time. His gun is as accurate as mine. Neither one of us has ever had any feeding or ejecting problems. The Bersa is cheap but a really great gun.

Perfect for CC and pretty accurate as well. Should be able to find one for under $200. The 9mm and .40's are nice also.

too big and heavy for your pants pocket, and the ammo costs 3x what Makarov ammo costs. Either go with a Mak or better yet, much better, get a Kahr PM9 9mm, for a 9x19 Luger pistol that is much more pocketable, and has about 3x the power of the 380. 380 jhp's rarely expand in flesh. That means that they waste about 50 of their pathetic 150 ft lbs on overpenetration. The 90 gr Corbon is 1400 fps in the PM9, for 390 ft lbs, and the bullet expands just fine at such speeds. Practice ammo for the 9mm costs about half what 380 ammo costs. 0
