fake model 1 1/2 smith and wessons

some months ago i shopped around what appears to be a fake model 1 1/2 S&W ser# 15 4" barrell 32 revolver with smooth cyl and octgon barrell. i had a gentleman tell me it was a fake and i sort of believe him. where could i send some pictures online maybe to find out for sure and are the fakes old and worth anything themselves? i appreciate the help... kevin mac

  Chances are that your friend is right.
  
  S&W made approximately 26,300 Old Model 1-1/2s between 1865 and 1868 and only about 200 of them had a 4" barrel.
  
  According to Flayderman, the First Issue (Old Model) 1-1/2s were numbered sequentially from 1 to 26,300 and should be marked with the Company name & address barrel marking and 1855 and 1859 patent dates (later specimens also included 1865 marking).
  
  According to the Standard Catalog of Firearms, the 4-inch barreled ones were all made in 1866, so it's unlikely that one of those would have had a serial number as low as #15.
  
  If you can, post some sharp, clear pictures. Full length left and right sides, full length top and bottom, and closeups of any and all markings.
