Marlin Model 90

Hey folks,

I'm familiar with Marlin rifles, but new to Marlin shotguns. Just purchased a Model 90 12 ga. DT, and I was wondering about the history of these guns. I've seen they were only manufactured for a few years, and sold through Sears for a time. Anyone have experience with these shotguns? Bought it because it seems like a good, solid workhorse O/U.

    I saw on numrich that they have 20 Ga barrels for sale for the marlin model 90. I have a 12 Ga model 90. Does the 20 Ga have a totally different receiver of could the 20 Ga barrels be fitted to my receiver?

    Looks like you own a one of a kind.The Marlin Company built them for Sear Roebuck as it was developed by them and they wouldn't allow Marlin to put the Marlin name on them at first.When they finally relented,Marlin made them in all kinds of configurations.Double rifles,of course shotguns,even rifle-shotgun combos.. Really a nice job they did.Consider yourself lucky to find such a gem.modoc

    Double rifles? Wow I've never seen a Marlin double rifle. They must be quite rare. Are there any pictures that could be posted of the Model90 12gauge?

    I also have a Marlin model 90 20 gauge overunder, two trigger, shotgun. I bought it about 1950 while still in High School, or maybe shortly after that. The serial number is G 295.
    While I was away my father had a neighbor carve his hunting dog from the 1920's onto the stock. Beautifully done.
    I don't have any plans to sell it, but would be interested in when it was manufactured and its approximate value. I am sure it is worth more to me then anyone else.

    To remove barrels, grasp the barrels just above the forend and with the other hand pull the front of the forend down & away from the barrels. The forend will snap off front first. Next hold the gun under your arm and while grasping the barrels open the gun by turning the opening latch to the right. After opening, the barrels will lift out.

    though ive owned several m-90's i would have to say, save for the one unique feature of being the first internal hammerless u.s. made gun, for the most part, it was of utility grade w/o ejectors or selective triggers on the sst set up. the dead giveaway was the lack of vent rib as an option. its stock is prone to cracking around the receiver since the wood is relieved so much to allow the receiver to slip in. and they kick like the dickins. a gun made for sears a masterpiece? i cant agree. granted, if it trips your trigger, enjoy it. but its not a gun i would go searching for tomorrow....unless its was a 410.
    for the record, model 21's and parkers are 'masterpieces.'[;)]
    when youtake off the bbls, look for choke marks. youlll see them. they will be some kind of code with * or -'s or just plain marked what they are.
