Mossberg 590 Marine Pump Question

Hi,
My friends Mossberg 590 Marine finish "home defense" shotgun requires you to push the pump button every time you cycle the shells. Is this normal or is something broken? He says thats the way it came from the factory and it prevents jams. Does anyone have any advice on this issue good or bad?

    I have a 590 marinecoat. You only have to push in the button if you are cycling it and it hasn't been fired in that cycle. If you are firing it everytime you cycle it you shouldn't need to push in the button. If you do, send back to Mossberg in Texas they will fix it for free if it is less than 10 years old. I think nearly all 590's are less than 10.

    rich beat me to it. He is correct. That thin blade just rear of the trigger guard is call the "action release lever" or somthing like that. Used only to cycle the action without pulling the trigger - like in unloading.

    Yes, everytime he fires the gun he has to press the button in to eject the shell and reload. The reason I ask is that he's trying to sell the gun to me and he said that's the way its suppose to be.

    His gun has only been fired about 10 times, it's "Like New". I never see Mossberg 590's w/ Marine finished on Ebay, what's the going rate on one? I see a lot of Remington 870's w/ marine finish.

    I believe he is wrong. Perhaps he bought it new with that problem and simply doesn't know.

    I don't think this is correct. They are not much different from the 500 right. And you would not see them on Fleabay either. No guns allowed

    I paid $275 for used for mine. It has an aftermarket sidesaddle, and is a 9 shot model. I thought it was a fair price. new ones run about $350-375
