Russian Nagant revolver
my question is about the Nagant rev.currently being imported .I know the original caliber is 7.62X38 , and i know they sell a spare cylinder to shoot 32acp .but in a add for interordance they wrote that they shoot 32 H&R mag fine too. well if this is true the 32 s&w longs should work also ,correct??? has anybody shot one of these with anthing other than the ammo it was made for???I was thinking about buying one, any comments good or bad on them in general?

Can you use 32-20 brass to reload for a Nagant? If so, any sugestions for a low velocity load? Powder, powder charge, etc? Will be using 90 grain Sierra bullets. Want to load some and take my Russian father-in-law shooting this weekend. Bought the revolver off GB as I knew it would blow his mind. He was deeply touched. Amazing what you will do to make the wife happy with you. 0 -
I've shot them with 32 S & W Long, in the past. The brass cartridge case has a tendency to swell up and somtimes split on fireing.
The trigger pull is really ulgy. There is a internal cam linkage that forces the cylinder forward prior to fireing. Even when shooting in single action mode, it take a lot of concentration to keep the sights aligned. The best one I ever owned was made in the Radom Arsenal in Poland, the internal fit and finish were superior to the Russian manufactured Nagants.

I have shot .32 S&W, .32 S&W Long, .32-20 (after seating the bullets about 1/16 inch deeper) and handloads using the Lee special die set that reloads .32-20 ammo to properly fit the Nagant revolver. Frequently I got a split case with .32 long ammo, but with no ill effects, (wearing safety glasses) .32 S&W worked fine, no split cases but plenty of bulged cases. My favorite is the reloaded .32-20 using cast bullets and the special Lee dies.

thanks rufe-snow but would the 32 mag be safe??? i thinkits about 21,000 cup dont know what the nagant ammo is? also are the pre war made guns of a better fit and quality like the mosin rifles. I know these guns are not target or match guns by any means and dont want one for that reason anyways ,but can you hit anything at reasonable range with one? just want one because there kinda neat and unusual and would add to my russian weapon collection,i havent seen any polish mfg.ones advertised lately can you still get them? 0 -

Never shot any 32 Mag ammo in mine. I imagine, it being a hotter load then 32 S & W Long, the brass would be in even worst shape after fireing. Although the pre W W II manufactured Russian Nagants are finished better then the war time production, they still have a heck of a trigger pull. The Polish Nagant was head and shoulders above the Russians in fit and finish. Other then mine, I've only seen a couple of others over the years. Nowadays, I believe they would be a real big buck collectors item, that wouldn't be readily available.0 -
I have reloaded 32-20 brass with a lead bullet with good results. I did have to turn down the brass just in front of the rim slightly. I only removed about 2/1000 ths of the solid part of the case. If you don't have a lathe it could be done with a drill and a file. I don't have the load data that I used handy but powder charge for .32 long should work fine

.32 H&R Mag is actually slightly less powerful than the original Russian ammo.

I, too, have shot .32 Longs and .32 Mags out of this revolver with no ill effects, other than some bulged cases.

"mp-5" on the auction part of the site has had some pretty good prices on the actual gas-seal round (Fiocchi). Aim Surplus is also carrying the Fiocchi gas-seal, but they're a little higher in price than what mp-5 has sold it for here.

Keep in mind that the "original Russian" ammo being sold is original Russian TARGET ammo, and not full power military rounds.
