what brand barrel would u suggest for a 98 mauser? i would like somethig fairly heavy and extremely accurate out. stainless, blue, or in the white, doesnt matter.price doesnt really matter as long as it isnt a $400 barrel. i would like to get into a shooting team and also long range hunting (varmints/deer)

    I just built a rifle on a new CZ98 action with a Shilen Select Match 6mm barrel for my uncle and he took it out to do the barrel break-in and it was shooting sub-MOA with Remington factory ammo (100gr PSP's) and no fouling shot

    You forgot to mention Pac-Nor, Lilja, Spencer, plus a whole lot more.
    Any one of them will do a better job than a factory tube will, and any one of them could be a hummer, or a dud depending on how lucky you are.
    Youy really can't go wrong with any of them, but you pay your money and take your chances.

    I agree with Bruce and Joey that an aftermarket barrel is always going to be better than a factory tube. Check out the Dan Lilja's website and see the video.

    I think nearly any of the aftermarket barrels will give outstanding accuracy. The real factor that detirmines how it will shoot is the quality of the installation. A lousy neighborhood gunsmith with a worn out lathe, 50 year old chamber reamers bought second hand and your new barrel is a sad situation waiting to happen.[V] Make sure the person that installs your barrel and chambers it is a man of known experience and quality. Thats my 2 cents.

    any tube by a reputable maker will do it. I have 4 PacNor's, 1 Hart, 1 Schneider, 1 Blackstar accumax (LW50), etc etc etc. as long as the rifling machine, be it button or cut rifling, was set up and indexed correctly, you can expect superb performance and fouling that will be reduced significantly by the 3rd or 4th cleaning.
