Just bought this off a friend for $250 12 guage double barrel.Was just wondering how much these guns are worth. My friend was remodeling a house and the lady who owned the house gave my friend a few guns for his labor. He told me her uncle was a gunsmith and he recently passed away and that she cant stand guns so she's trying to get rid of them.

Generally considered a utility gun, though Piepher made some nicer guns under their own name. Photo tells little, but I expect tubes are marked "Laminated Steel". That would put the gun squarely into the utility category.
Assuming NZ makes you a Kiwi, then I don't have a basis to really say what the gun is worth. In US dollars these guns range from about $50.00 for an intact piece on up to perhaps $250.00 for a really nice example.
Note that the gun is not nitro proofed. Thus, no smokeless loads are considered safe. Fact is, any load at all will be questionable unless approved by a good smith.

Shotguns, Double Barrel, Side by Side but only One Hammerless Box Lock,'The Bayard' it had Light Engraving, Came in Various Gauges...In Very Good Condition...$250.00 to $300.00.............
Only one Pieper Side by Side Was made with Damascus Barrels....If Yours is a Damascus Barreled gun and in Very Good Condition...its worth $250.00 Tops....and should not be fired...even with Low Base Black Powder Loads.... The Pieper Side by Side Guns with Steel barrels were made to shoot the Dupont Smokeless Shot Shell Powder...Green in Color and came in large Grandules....Built the same pressures as 2 and 3FFFg Black Powder...One had Light Engraving and Hammers and the other with No Engraving...Both valued at $275.00 and maybe $325.00 respectivly....Add 25% for Excellent Condition...Less for minus's...........Hope this information is of some small help to you......Best from the mainland..........

says $850 but i donno you guys would know better. so i shouldnt shoot it? that sux i wanted to shoot it new years. What could go wrong if i was to shoot it?

Do yourself a big favor, take the shotgun to a qualified gunsmith, before you shoot it. Have him inspect and test fire it for safety. Your shotgun might be over 100 years old and unsafe to shoot. You start blasting away with it on New Years eve, when your s**tfaced, and you might not live to see the new year.

Keep in mind.....Gun prices are altogether differant in New Zealand and Oz... as opposed to the USA...We have a larger selection and Prices are a matter of Demand and Availabilty...Glad that We here in on <gunbroker.com> could be of some help to you......Best....
