    A CZ would be a good choice. If your not looking for anything fancy, then Savage is your best bet.

    Savage makes probably the most accurate out of the box rifle on the market. The CZ is also a good choice. My shooting buddy really likes the CZ 's single set trigger.

    What are you looking to do with it? Do you want a light easy carry rifle or a heavy long range bull barrel rig? Does it have to be perfect right from the box, or do you figure of minor customizing? Do you want a true mirco length .223 action, a 308 length action or will any old length work for you? What kind of stock will you take, or does it have to be nice wood? One mans "best" is anothers core for a starter project. Savage, Remington, CZ 527, Sako, Winchester, Kimber, Ruger, Charles Dayly mini mauser; is a fairly good list of good .223s, and still it is a completely useless answer. For myself I'm thinking a nice looking, lightweight easy carry .223 rilfe is in my future and I expect it will be one of the CZ 527 "american" rifles.

    savage model 12 or cz 527 both are excellent choices.I like the single set trigger on the cz. I was able to safely set mine down to 6 oz. The savage trigger can also be adjusted very nicely. you could always spend the big bucks and buy a cooper rifle.

    Take a look at the new Stevens 200 made by Savage.I shot sub MOA groups with a cheap Simmons scope and the rifle retails for about 320 dollars.

    i like the remington 700 varmint synthetics. with a good scope, they will easily shoot 1/4 to 1/2 in groups. will cost a deal more than the savage, but the hs precision stocks with the aluminum bedding blocks are really nice.

    Savage for 400.00 to 600.00 will shoot 1/2MOA out of the box.

    If you want a kick butt varmint rifle for around 1300.00, Cooper makes a wicked .223
