Williams Fire sights

I installed a set, ( front and rear ), of Williams Fire Sights. Its been like five or six months ago. I finally got my single six dialed in using the Williams Fire Sights. I was cleaning the pistol today after going to the range. My guess is that Hops #9 ate right thru the front sight.I'm talking about the little red plastic or fiber thats installed by the factory into the front sight. Has this happened to anyone else?

    I don't know about the Williams themselves, but I can tell you about other fiber optic sights, yes any cleaner does make the brittle, I use the hi-viz, and remove them before each cleaning

    I've used Breakclean until today.I got a wild hair to really clean the barrell up good. I had the single six pointed down when I gave a few squirks of Hops #9 down the barrel,( using an eyedropper ). I must of turned that gun just right and the Hops went to work on the plastic. I hope I can get some inserts from Williams. I got the toll free number off thier web site.

    Any solvent will do it not just hops, I have never heard of it happening in one day, it may have been already broke down a bit and the #9 finished it off, I don't know

    I do like the hi-viz, while they do not look as good as some, they offer pre cut rods that insert to a notch, and are all of a specific diameter, unlike some that ou have to buy a rod of the stuff, and cut it then burn it to seal it in the site holder, I also love the idea of tru-glows tritium fiber optic sights, but for that reason I will not spend a hundred bucks for them, nor are the rear ones adjustable

    Victor,when you said you used "Breakclean" did you mean Breakfree or Brake-Kleen?"[:)]

    I called the toll free number today. I'm surpprised, thier sending me free replacement parts.Now how am I supposed to clean the inside of the barrel ,without getting solvent on the front sight? Rubber electrial tape comes to mind.
