1917 Enfield
Winchester 1917 enfield. Barrel is two grove,The finish looks parkerised, reciver etc blued. All dimentions are correct, Markings on barrel have flaiming bomb,etc. Question. Were these rifles reconditioned (rebarreled) etc at any point in time. Thanks.

Is there any problem with drilling, and tapping the bridges on a Remington Enfield, SN 214332. Also where might I get a sporter style stock (inleted) for this puppy. I'm toying with the idea of building an A square type big bore of some cal. I'm pretty much up on the issues, and tasks at hand, so will use a compent smith for the metal work. Although specifics were not mentioned-
If the U.S. Model of 1917 Rifle is in full military-protective ears
on the rear sight not cut off-go for it. The cost of a replacement barrel-U.S.-either H.S. or J.A. will set you back about two hundred.
Installing and head space-I no longer perform this or solicit this work will cost you about $75.00/w/ no guarantees. One of the most difficult barrels to remove. The www.odcmp.com was selling the 17's for about $350.00 w/ bad bores. More information is required. If original blue vs. parked= post WW1 rebuild-still worth some money but
only in full military configuration. Mixed parts-Remington-Eddystone-Winchester are post WW1 rebuilds. Having studied the 17 for over 35 years I perhaps may be of some help to you. You may also wish to check out the 17 forum @ www.jouster.com Best, 1010 -

The 17 was the strongest action ever manufactured.
Many custom arms were made upon this action. The moderator of this forum-his Dad-made custom rifles based upon the 17 action.
Likely someone will tell you about Eddystone actions cracking-
early but- may wish to consider this was a Remington facility based upon forty acers of leased land that Baldwin Lima Hamilton let to Remington. Also, the worst barrel ever is offered by Numrich.

You might try shooting it with the bore as is before rebarreling too; sometimes really bad LOOKING bores clean up and /or shoot very well as is!
